Digital Literacy for Everyday Life
Master the digital tools that keep you connected, informed, and safe — at a patient pace with instructors who explain every step without jargon.
Overview
From video calls with grandchildren abroad to checking CPF statements online, digital tools have become essential to daily life in Singapore. Yet rapid interface changes, security warnings, and well-meaning but rushed help from family members can leave many adults feeling left behind. This course rebuilds confidence through repetition, printed step-by-step guides, and plenty of time for questions.
Bring your own smartphone or tablet (Apple or Android — we support both). If you do not have a device, notify us when enrolling and we will provide a loan unit for class sessions. Each topic is taught twice within the programme so learners who miss a concept the first time can grasp it on the second pass.
Session topics
- Week 1 — Device foundations: Settings, accessibility features, Wi-Fi connection, app installation, and basic troubleshooting.
- Week 2 — Communication: WhatsApp and Zoom setup; group chats; sharing photos; managing notifications politely.
- Week 3 — Safety & government services: Password managers and two-factor authentication; recognising phishing and scam calls; Singpass and MyInfo basics.
- Week 4 — Organisation & banking: Photo backup to cloud; online banking navigation; reviewing transaction alerts; personal digital safety checklist.
Teaching approach
We cap this class at ten learners with two instructors present, allowing one-on-one assistance while others practise independently. Every skill is documented in a laminated quick-reference card you take home. We deliberately avoid technical vocabulary unless we define it first, and we never assume prior familiarity with any app or service.
